Why can't you be a "normal" Christian like me?

A number of people reading this will be upset that my writing seems so harsh compared to the modern gospel. After all, what's the point in getting worked up over who is saved and who isn't? 95% of the people in the United States believe in God. A large percentage of those people are Christians, right? If so many people are guaranteed to go to Heaven, why be so zealous about Christianity?

It seems that this is the majority opinion in America. Unfortunately, this same majority of the population has not bothered to study the Bible. The general consensus is that a Christian is simply "someone who believes in Christ and lives a good life." The Bible gives very different criteria for being a Christian. It shows how to determine whether or not someone is "in Christ." Why bother? Because if someone does not belong to Christ, then he will not be saved by Christ.

The following is a test, another challenge, to help you determine if you are "in Christ." Please be honest with yourself when you are answering.  If you lie, the only person you will be fooling is yourself. Worse yet, God knows all of your thoughts and actions, so honesty is always the best policy. "We may deceive all the people sometimes; we may deceive some of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time, and not God at any time." - Abraham Lincoln

 Question #1:
Do you truly love Jesus and God above all else? More than your spouse, your job, your money, your possessions? The Bible says that you should love Him so much that your love for everyone else seems like hatred by comparison.  Do you really love God and Jesus that much?
Yes
No
 Question #2:

Do you strive to obey the commandments Jesus gave us? These do not just include the Ten Commandments and "Love your neighbor as yourself."  He commanded us to do many other things, including to repent, "go into the world and preach the Gospel to every creature," and to "go and make disciples."  (If you don't know the kind of commands I'm referring to, then you obviously aren't striving to obey them.)  Do you obey His commands?

Yes
No
 Question #3:
Have you repented?  Repentance is not just apologizing to God.  It is handing your life over to God's will.  It is turning away from your human desires and committing yourself to serve God's desires.  Have you given your life over to God's control?
Yes
No
 Question #4:
Have you been "born again?" To be "born again" is to undergo a Spiritual birth which will forever change a person. It is a radical transformation that is plainly noticeable.  Jesus taught us that if any man repents and puts his trust in the Savior, he will become born again. Have you experienced this personally?
Yes
No
 Question #5:
Does Jesus Christ have a dramatic effect on your life every day?
(Does He constantly affect both your thoughts and actions?)
Yes
No
 Question #6:
Do you read the Bible often?
(Do you read daily or close to it?)
Yes
No
 Question #7:
Do you feel a strong desire to spread the Gospel of Jesus to others?
Yes
No
 Question #8:
Do people get to Heaven by trying to live a good life?
Yes
No
 Question #9:
Do you believe that you are a good person by nature?
Yes
No
 Question #10:

Yes
No
